Canberra
Canberra - Australia's Capital region
Located on the ancient lands of the traditional owners, the Ngunnawal people, Canberra is thought to derive its name from the Aboriginal word Kamberra or ‘meeting place’.
The city of Canberra became the site for the newly federated nation of Australia in 1908 by a ballot in Parliament after extensive searching. The Indigenous peoples of this area have lived here for over 20,000 years. Since then the city has grown to become the proud home of the Australian story.
Canberra is a fantastic base from which to explore the many treasures of the surrounding region. Why not allow enough time to linger longer and enjoy all the nation’s capital has to offer. Canberra is an ideal starting point to explore the gems of its capital and regional surroundings, including historic townships, natural beauty, breathtaking coastlines and the famous Snowy Mountains.
